NICC Hosting Event to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a performance by the Mixed Blood Theatre on Monday, Jan. 18. The theatre group, based in Minneapolis, Minn., will chronicle King's career in a show titled,"Dr. King's Dream," that portrays his civil rights work from the Montgomery bus strike to his death in Memphis in 1968. The performance time is 10 -11:20 a.m. in Conference Centers 1 & 4 at the Peosta campus. The public is welcome to attend this free event.

"Dr. King's Dream" features Warren C. Bowles in a solo performance that movingly captures the leader's career, including his famous "I Have a Dream" speech and his thoughts on topics ranging from Malcolm X to the police and President Kennedy.

The Mixed Blood Theatre Company produced "Dr. King's Dream." The group was founded in 1976 and is dedicated to the spirit of Dr. King's legacy.
