State
Patrol Begins Early Reporting to 511
Posted 17 November 2008
Beginning this past week, Iowa
drivers are now able to access winter weather road condition
information by dialing 511 on their telephone or accessing
www.iowaroadconditions.org from any web browser.
In anticipation of the winter weather, the Iowa Department of Public
Safety and Iowa Department of Transportation activated winter weather
road condition reports to 511.
Winter road condition information is entered into the Condition
Acquisition and Reporting System (CARS) by the Iowa State Patrol, based
on observations made by ISP Troopers as they travel throughout the
state.
Obviously, Troopers are not able to cover all designated routes at the
same time, but they will continue to enter information as conditions
change and they travel different roadways.
Weather-related road condition information will be available now
through March 15, 2009. Information is added, only when
conditions change. If Iowa roadways are not being impacted by the
winter weather, you will most likely hear a message, or a view a map
icon, that indicates roads are “NORMAL.”
