River
Documentary To Be Shown Saturday

The McGregor-Marquette Arts Center
will host a benefit screening of the Emmy Award-winning documentary,
“Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat,” this Saturday, Nov. 15, at
the McGregor-Marquette Arts Center, 330 Main St., McGregor, next to the
public library.
“Tales of the Last River Rat” is a 2005 BBC-produced documentary about
the Upper Mississippi River and self-proclaimed river rat Kenny Salwey
of Alma, Wisconsin.
Prairie du Chien area resident Neil Rettig was the cinematographer for
film, and several of the scenes were filmed locally. Rettig will be on
hand to introduce the film and give a brief presentation about the art
of cinematography.
This will be the first public screening of the film in this area.
An afternoon showing for children will be held Saturday at 3 p.m.
Kids are encouraged to bring a pillow or a beanbag chair to sit on the
floor. Admission to the children’s showing is $4, and includes
refreshments and a nature-themed art activity following the film.
The evening showing will begin at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 6:45 p.m. A
suggested donation of $8 for adults, $15 per couple and $18 family is
requested, but any donation is welcome. Free refreshments will be
served.
Those attending the event are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food
item for the local food shelf.
All proceeds benefit the McGregor-Marquette Arts Center and are
tax-deductible
