'Green'
Programs Offered at NICC Thursday
Posted 4 November 2008
Northeast Iowa Community College is
offering two free community programs this Thursday, Nov. 6, in the
Wilder Building on the Calmar campus.
The afternoon seminar educates and builds awareness of building and
maintaining affordable, environmentally responsible homes and
structures. The evening seminar teaches current strategies for creating
sustainable communities and what some Iowa communities are doing to
protect their environment.
"Go Green, Make Green" for building trades professionals and "Shades of
Green" for homeowners will rotate through three main topics that
discuss indoor air quality, maximizing energy use and the choice and
proper use of greener products.
Shawn Saltou, of Midwest Drafting and Design, Joel Koffron, of KD3
Environmental, and Tim Hanes, of Cenergy, will teach the seminar.
Afternoon sessions are held from 2 p.m. - 5:50 p.m.
"Building Sustainable Communities", an evening program from 6:30 p.m. -
8:30 p.m., teaches attendees about the beneficial environmental
practices Iowans are implementing to build sustainable communities.
Jeff Geerts, special project manager for the Iowa Department of
Economic Development's Community Development Division, will teach the
program. Geerts offers examples of community environmental
sustainability efforts in Iowa and resources for taking action.
Homeowners, builders, realtors, bankers and community leaders are
encouraged to attend.
Pre-registration for these free programs is requested by calling NICC
at (800) 728-2256, ext. 399. For more information, contact Mary Steen,
